Looking for things to do in Southwest Florida in the New Year?

Whether you are relocating here this year, a seasonal resident heading back down South, or a full-time resident just looking for new things to do, there is always an abundance of fun things to do in the area during “season.”

As the population in our area continues to steadily grow, there are always new restaurants, attractions, and events popping up as well! Keep reading to find out all the fun things to do in Southwest Florida in 2020.

Dine, Shop, and Relax

Southwest Florida is best known for our year-round great weather and overall relaxing lifestyle.

From Naples to Fort Myers, there are multiple outdoor areas where you can leisurely dine and shop. Fort Myers Beach is full of souvenir shops and fun bars and restaurants with live music. Naples is great for luxury boutiques and fine dining on 5th Avenue or Waterside Shops. In between in Estero and Bonita, you can stop by Coconut Point Mall or Miromar Outlets, which have a variety of shopping and dining options for you to enjoy.

We are famous for our 100 miles of shoreline of award-winning beaches. No matter where you are, there are plenty of options to enjoy the SWFL beaches – Sanibel Island, Fort Myers Beach, Captiva, Marco Island, Naples Beach, or Bonita Beach – just to name a few.

Outside of shopping and dining, there are many other attractions for you to enjoy. Fort Myers has many famous historic sites and attractions, like the Edison & Ford Winter Estates. Naples is home to the Naples Botanical Gardens which is a 170-acre world glass garden paradise that features plants from all around the world. There are also several nature sites where you can explore or kayak, like Koreshan State Park, Six Mile Cypress, and the Everglades State Park.

Southwest Florida Events in 2020

While there are always many options of things to do in Southwest Florida, there are also a number of events that occur throughout the year that give you an opportunity to experience something new and different. Here are just a few of the upcoming events that you can take part in that are coming up in the first few months of 2020!

Bonita Springs Art Festival – Bonita Springs has 3 fine art arts and fine crafts festivals every year in Riverside Park, which showcase over 200 national and international artists. The quality artwork and experience are nationally ranked. This year’s shows will take place January 11-12th, February 8-9th, and March 7-8th.

The Everglades Seafood Festivalthis festival is a famous annual event that features country music, famous locally prepared seafood, arts & crafts, and carnival rides for kids. It takes place in McLeod Park in Everglades City, where all the proceeds benefit the rural community. 2020’s event will be held February 7th-9th.

Downtown Naples Art Show on Fifth Avenue – another famous, annual occurring art show is the Naples Downtown Art Show, which is a local favorite for art enthusiasts and collectors. The show takes place on 5th Avenue from March 21st-22nd 2020.

Edison Festival Of Lights Grand Parade – The largest night parade in our area is a two-hour extravaganza featuring national participants, local marching bands, floats, local government and law enforcement officials, clowns, and much more – in celebration of the life of Thomas Edison. This year’s parade will take place on February 15th, 2020.

Fireworks at the Naples Pier – one of the most famous attractions of the summer is the watching the fireworks from the Naples Pier on July 4th. The 20-minute display with special effects musically choreographed to patriotic selections takes part every year at 9:00.

    Glass Bottom Rentals should be on your list! It is our favorite thing to do in SWFL! They offer Clear Kayak rentals and tours, and just started doing LED Night tours! We cannot wait to go again!
